Doncaster Rovers will be looking for back-to-back wins for the first time since February when they take on Everton Under-21s in the EFL Trophy.

Rovers finally got their first league win of the season at the weekend after they beat Forest Green 2-1 thanks to Ben Close’s injury-time goal, which he later admitted was intended as a cross.

They now have the chance to follow that up with their first competitive win at the Eco-Power Stadium since April.

Doncaster Rovers v Everton Under-21s

Bobby Faulkner sprints upfield and almost takes the ball to the byline before cutting it back for Louie Marsh, who sees his low effort kept out by the legs of Crellin.

Good defending from Faulkner

He gets his head to Katia Kouyate’s goalbound strike which looked to be bending past Louis Jones and diverts it over the bar for a corner.

A word on Bobby Faulkner

He’s in a battle against Everton’s best attacker so far in Katia Kouyate. The forward has got the better of him once or twice already and is by far and away the visitors’ biggest threat in this half.

Sotona takes the free-kick and Billy Crellin is at full stretch to keep it out. Keeper straight back on his feet to stop Joseph Olowu pouncing on the rebound.

Much better from Sotona

He tracks back and wins the ball back not far from his own box then carries it about 50 yards, riding a challenge or two, and finds Tyler Roberts, who wins a foul in a shooting position. Ben Close standing over it.

He loses the ball trying to take a man on inside his own half then lets the same player drift past him and get a cross away. A little bit of naivety there.

Another Everton booking

Rash tackle from Elijah Campbell, who takes Louie Marsh out from behind.

Rovers hit the bar through Deji Sotona. Move started with an exceptional pass from George Broadbent following good play by Louie Marsh, which released Tyler Roberts. His cross was diverted towards Sotona by Tommy Rowe but his effort comes back off the bar.

Bobby Faulkner gets away with one

He commits a blatant foul on an Everton man, who releases the ball upfield just in time, which sees the ref, presumably blindsided, continue play.
