Doncaster Rovers will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the season when they take on Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup first round.

Rovers have picked up four points from their opening two games and take on a side they are unbeaten against in their last eight meetings stretching back to 2004.

Lincoln, who are now managed by Republic of Ireland defender Mark Kennedy, remain on the hunt for their first win of the 22/23 campaign having drawn their first two matches in League One.

Rovers taking the cup seriously

Doncaster progressed to the second round of the Carabao Cup under former boss Richie Wellens last term but have not reached the third-round stage since the 2017/18 season, when they were knocked out by Arsenal.

Here’s what boss Gary McSheffrey had to say about the competition...

Lee Tomlin is expected to return to the starting XI following his one-match suspension.

Adam Long could well make his first start for Doncaster, too, and the club were due to make a decision on whether Tom Anderson would be involved tonight earlier today.

The influential defender missed Saturday’s game against Sutton United due to personal reasons.

Charlie Seaman is expected to be in the matchday squad, having been overlooked for selection in the opening two matches.

McSheffrey also hinted youngsters Bobby Faulkner and Tavonga Kuleya could again be involved this evening after making their league debuts last time out.

Game Day Three is upon us

Tonight kicks off a busy month of Saturday-Tuesday action for Rovers - it could get busier should they progress to round two - and presents another fresh challenge for Gary McSheffrey’s side.

How will they cope against a good League One team, who held Portsmouth to a draw last weekend? It could be a useful litmus test for their progress since last season’s relegation. They will have to be better than Saturday to get a win tonight.

Both managers have said they will make changes for tonight’s clash, but insist they won’t be wholesale with them wanting to get through to the next round and potentially meet a Premier League side.
