Grant McCann discusses Peterborough United ‘DNA’ as Doncaster Rovers target win this weekend
Grant McCann previews his side’s trip to Peterborough and the key takeaways from watching his former side’s game with Barnsley
With more than 180 appearances as a player, two spells as a manager and a combined eight years of experience, it’s fair to say Grant McCann has a big connection to Peterborough United.
But at the same time he’s also proven that he knows how to beat them having done the double against them last season. He’s also faced them a fair few times in his first spell with Doncaster Rovers and as manager of Hull City.
Overall, he has a record of four wins, one draw and three defeats against Peterborough as manager - a record he’ll desperately hope he can improve on even further this weekend as Rovers go in search of their first league victory.

“Yeah, I've obviously played them quite a lot of times now,” McCann said.
“Obviously being the manager at either Doncaster or Hull so it's always nice to go back. There's some familiar faces there that are still there from when I played or when I managed so it's always good to see them but we're going there with a job to do.
“We're going there to win the game. That's the whole remit this week. It's been preparing as best we can to go to Peterborough and win the game.”
Peterborough, like Rovers, haven’t got off to a good start. They are 21st in the division with one win in six matches so far this term.
They are also the lowest scorers in the division this season - although that wasn’t apparent in their topsy-turvy 3-3 League Cup draw with Barnsley on Tuesday evening, with Luke Williams' side ultimately winning the tie on penalties.
“I was there it was an interesting,” McCann said.
“ An entertaining game I have got to say, but yeah I wouldn't think Daniel or Luke would have felt the same standing on the sideline to be honest
“I think what I took away from the game is what probably the DNA of Peterborough is, you know you attack, we attack, you attack, we attack and we'll try and score more than you.
“I feel like that's probably been the DNA since Darragh MacAnthony has been the owner of the football club and whatever manager he has in place there, that is what is drummed into you. I've obviously played in it, I know what it's about I've played at Peterborough for a few years and we always have that sort of feeling that if we're 2-0 down we'll beat you 3-2 if we're 4-0 down we'll beat you 5-4 that sort of feeling and I think looking at that game the other night I had that sort of feeling.
“It was open, it probably could have been 3-0 or 4-0 up before Peterborough equalised and then it was just two and throw all game and it was like their front four against our front four, their front whatever way you want to look at it
“It was enjoyable to watch. It took a lot from it. Hopefully we can take it into the game on Saturday and hopefully use some of it to our advantage.”
