Former Doncaster Rovers wideman Mark Duffy has left his role after less than three weeks

Former Doncaster Rovers winger Mark Duffy has exited his role as manager of Southport F.C. after less than three weeks in the dugout at Haig Avenue.

The 40-year-old , who featured regularly for Doncaster Rovers under Paul Dickov during the club’s most recent season in the Championship in 2013/14, was confirmed as Neil Danns replacement on 1 October after a brief stint as assistant coach under his previous manager, aswell as a short spell as caretaker boss before the club decided that he was the man to try and take them forward.

Having taken charge of just two matches as permanent manager, Duffy, who also spent four years at Sheffield United during his playing career, oversaw a 1-0 defeat away to Harborough Town and a 2-0 home loss to Radcliffe on Saturday. This sent the team spiralling down to 22nd position after an underwhelming start which has so far seen them pick up just nine points from their first 12 games of the campaign.

A statement issued by the club said: “Southport Football Club can confirm that Mark Duffy has left his position as First Team Manager following the mutual termination of his contract.

“The club would like to thank Mark for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future.”
