The 24-year-old has scored three goals in 16 appearances for Rovers, including a sublime free-kick in Saturday’s dramatic 3-2 win over Crewe.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has told Stewart he is not in his plans and is free to move on.

McCarthy told the East Anglian Daily Times: “Take his (Stewart’s) appearance record since he’s been here, he’s not going to play. He’s got to go somewhere else.

“He knows that, by the way. I wish him well and I hope he’s doing well at Doncaster and he can find a club that he fits in with and where he plays well and he ends up progressing and has a good career.”

Stewart is on loan at Doncaster until January 2.
