Doncaster Rovers: Reunion with Richie Wellens was a big pull for new boy Kyle Knoyle

It sees the 24-year-old working once again with Wellens, who was his manager at Swindon Town.

“As soon as I heard of the interest, I was very keen,” Knoyle said.

“Obviously I’ve worked for the manager before and that was a big factor in me coming in.

“I’ve heard good things about the club and I’m really excited to be here.

“The manager is a back factor. I know the style of play and what he’s trying to achieve here.

“I was aware of how well the club did for most of last season.

“I wanted to come into a place that I feel is going to fit me best and I can push on.

“The aim for me is to get another promotion under my belt and I feel this is the best place for me to do that.”

Knoyle started every league game for Cambridge last season as they secured promotion to the third tier.

And he is looking to use his experience to help Rovers mount their own push for promotion in the coming campaign.

Everyone wants to have a promotion on their CV and I’m glad to have that under my belt,” the former West Ham United youngster said.

“It’s now about using that experience of last season to help me for the future and to help my team mates.

“I’m going to be in a similar situation to where I experienced the promotion and I can use that for the better.

“I want to be here because every player wants to progress to the highest level and I feel this is the place for me to do that.

“The main aim is to play as high as possible and I need to keep building and pushing.

“And also to take this club back to where it should be.

“I’m delighted to be here and happy to get it sorted and signed.”
