The 24-year-old rejected the offer of a new deal from League One newcomers Cambridge United to join Rovers.

And it sees him link back up with Richie Wellens who was his manager at Swindon Town.

Knoyle was named in the PFA League Two team of the season as Cambridge won promotion.

He started every league game for the club and was described as the best right back in the division last term by boss Mark Bonner.

London-born Knoyle began his career with West Ham United, making one senior appearance as a starter in a Europa League qualifying game.

He switched to Swindon as a 20-year-old and made 69 appearances over two years before joining Cambridge two years ago.

He leaves the Abbey Stadium having made 82 appearances and scoring three goals.

Knoyle becomes Rovers’ second signing of the summer with a third to follow in the next 24 hours.
