Crewe Alexandra assistant manager Lee Bell admits Doncaster Rovers’ management change has thrown a spanner in the works for their preparation ahead of Saturday's clash.

Rovers confirmed Danny Schofield as their new head coach this morning following Gary McSheffrey’s dismissal on Monday.

Ex-Huddersfield Town chief Schofield wasted no time ahead of his first game in charge and got straight to work with his new players as he led training today.

Bell, who helped Crewe to two promotions as a player, said: “You have to tell the players what to expect but it’s difficult because we don’t know what formation they are going to play.

"They have tried to press in the past, they have tried to drop off, they have played with three at the back, they have played with a four.

"They changed to a four on Saturday (against Carlisle) halfway through the game, so it’s a little bit unpredictable.

"But we are fully focused on what areas we've got to improve on.”

The Railwaymen were also relegated from League One last term and were condemned to the drop after a 2-0 defeat to Rovers in April.

They won three of their first four league games under Alex Morris, who replaced David Artell following relegation.

But, like Doncaster, Crewe’s early season promise has since stagnated and they are without a win in five games.

They head into the match one place and four points below their opponents, albeit with a game in hand.

“We want to be higher than where we are,” said Bell.

"We are looking forward to the games coming thick and fast. The team actually needs that.”
