13. School dentists are a thing of the past
A visit by the school dentist struck fear into the hearts of many a pupil in the 60s and 70s. People who grew up then have recalled their horror at seeing the distinctive cream-coloured caravan being driven through the school gates. They also remember the pink tablets that were routinely handed out to show up any plaque on your teeth which you'd missed when brushing. | National World Photo: Submitted

14. Hand-knitted jumpers
School uniforms were a little less... uniform in the 60s and 70s. Many children wore hand-knitted jumpers back then, often made by their grandparents, and in many cases itchier than a bag of fleas. Handmade clothes are less common at schools these days. | Getty Images Photo: Larry Ellis/Express

15. Blackboards
The smell of chalk hung in the air of the typical classroom in the 60s and 70s, when blackboards were ubiquitous. They have since been usurped by whiteboards, and, more recently, digital screens and tablets. | Getty Images Photo: Three Lions
