I am chief reporter at The Star newspaper in Sheffield, where I have worked since 2016.
I grew up in south London and began my career working for the Hounslow Chronicle and other titles in west London, covering everything from theatre reviews to the latest news at Heathrow Airport.I'm a big Pulp fan and the fact Jarvis Cocker hails from Sheffield helped persuade me to move up here eight years ago, along with the more affordable housing, friendly locals and proximity to the stunning Peak District countryside. When I first came to Sheffield, I didn't know much about the city, other than the fact it was where The Full Monty was filmed and the World Snooker Championship is staged, but I quickly grew to love the city and feel at home here.I've enjoyed exploring Sheffield as a reporter, meeting all sorts of people and covering a wide variety of news, from court cases to the arts, though it is the human interest stories which perhaps give me the most satisfaction. For my sins, I'm a Spurs fan, though Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday have become (jointly) my second teams.I love Sheffield's great food and drink scene, from the traditional watering holes to the new bars and restaurants popping up all the time, and am proud to live in a city which has produced so many fantastic musicians and also punches above its weight when it comes to theatre and sport. While there's lots to get excited about in Sheffield today, I also find it fascinating to delve into the city's past, from its criminally unsung footballing heritage to people's strange obsession with the Hole in the Road and its famous fish tank in the wall which I sadly never got to see for myself.
