Police were called to the scene and managed to capture the two large black dogs, which were running free.

She said:”I was walking through the middle the woods on my own when they came bounding out of a bush barking aggressively and approaching me.

“I was absolutely terrified as their temperament felt like they wanted to hurt me.

“One of them began to jump up at me, at which point I shouted ‘get down’ and to my absolute surprise they retreated back into the bushes.

“I then called the police as I was concerned if someone else crossed paths with them, especially if they had a dog or child it could end up being a horrible situation.

“The police were fantastic as they responded very quickly and met me at the car park of the woods.

“Soon after I saw a total of eight police cars, two unmarked, come down and another eye witness told me armed police were telling people to leave the woods.

“It was a very scary experience and I think I came away extremely lucky.”

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “At 10.06am yesterday (19 October) we were called to reports of two dogs loose in Sandall Beat Wood, in Doncaster.

“Officers attended and have detained the two dogs, which are believed to be a Cane Corsa breed.
