Thunderstorms to hit Doncaster, with 36-hour weather warning in place

According to the latest forecast from the Met Office temperatures will remain in the 20s during the start of the week, hitting a high of 25C on Wednesday before the stormy weather moves in.

Rain is likely on Thursday and by Friday the maximum temperature will drop to 16C – some 10C lower than it reached today, Sunday, June 13 – before rising slightly to 18C on Saturday.

The weather warning, which covers much of England, from the south coast to Middlesbrough, states: “Some places are likely to see thunderstorms later Wednesday through to Friday with the potential for travel disruption and flooding.

“There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail and strong winds.

“Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

“Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

“There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads.

“There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.”

The long-range UK weather forecast for June 18-27 is for sunny spells and fresher conditions outside the south east, with some rain and thicker cloud towards the north and west at times.”
