We've drawn up a list of songs that mention Doncaster and other local places in them. There's not many to choose from, but how many do you know?

1. The Opener - The Courteeners

The Manchester indie band kicked off their 2010 album Falcon with this song - one of only a handful to explicitly mention Donny in the lyrics. Talking of his return home after touring, frontman Liam Fray sings: "I miss the city I love, 'cause I've been having an affair with LA and New York, Dundee and Doncaster if I may dare."

2. It's Grim Up North - The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu

An off-shoot project of 90s stadium house favourites The KLF, It's Grim Up North is possibly one of the strangest songs ever to reach the top ten. A list of northern towns and cities set against an industrial dance beat that fades into an orchestral version of hymn Jerusalem, Doncaster comes just ahead of Dewsbury and "Hali-fax" in the 1991 hit.

3. Stanley Road - Paul Weller

The 1995 album, the third solo release by the former Jam frontman was actually named after the street in Woking where he grew up - but that didn't stop fans of the Modfather heading to a quiet suburban street in Stainforth of the same name to have their photo taken with the street sign. Quite what Weller made of the bizarre tribute is unknown.

4. Pass Out - Tinie Tempah

The debut single by the British rapper in 2009 hit the number one spot - and regaled listeners on how he'd been "to Southampton but never been to Scunthorpe." The star was invited on the back of the success, with Scunthorpe United keen to woo him but its unclear whether he's still not sampled the delights of the steel town.

5. Fake Tales Of San Francisco - Arctic Monkeys

Alex Turner's band of course hail from Sheffield - and plenty of their songs reference the Steel City. This song contains the ultimate putdown for chancers pretending to be something they're not. "You're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham," he blasts. South Yorkshire once again made the pop charts.

6. Sheffield Sex City - Pulp

Another famous Sheffield export, Jarvis Cocker sleazes his way through a list of the city's suburbs and villages in this seedy look at Sheffield's underbelly. Never before had references to Attercliffe, The Wicker, Hackenthorpe and Woodhouse sounded so enticing and well, sexual.
