Thornensians secure promotion to Yorkshire Two

Thornensians secured promotion to Yorkshire Two with a 34-15 win at Leeds Modernians.

A hard earned win secured second spot in the Yorkshire Three table, behind unbeaten champions Wetherby, for John Pearce’s men.

The home side were 15-7 ahead at half time but Thorne hit back strongly despite playing up the hill in the second half.

Winger Zak Holgate’s first half try was converted by winger Oliver Cox, and Cox also converted hooker Lee Linsdell’s 54th minute try before adding a penalty which put Thorne ahead.

Holgate’s second try came on 62 minutes and was also improved by Cox, while No 8 Ryan Pilley scored two tries in the final ten minutes to wrap up the bonus point win.

Thorne conclude their league season at Harrogate Pythons on Saturday.

They face Goole in the semi-final of the Yorkshire Silver Trophy on May 14.
