Suede and Prince added to film line-up at Sheffield's Tramlines festival

Star names such as Suede, Iggy Pop and Prince are heading for Sheffield's Tramlines Festival '“ at least on the big screen.

The inner-city music festival has teamed up with the city’s Showroom Cinema to show a string of music films at this year’s event.

Documentaries, concert footage and soundtracked feature films are all set to be screened at the city centre venue over the festival’s three days, from Friday to Sunday, July 22 to 24.

Sarah Nulty, Tramlines director, said: ““In a city full of amazing venues, the Showroom is one of our best-loved and most important cultural spaces.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with the people behind such a cutting-edge and innovative film programme, as well as offering Tramlines-goers the opportunity to enjoy something beyond the music.”

Films to be screened include Iggy Pop live in Basel and Purple Rain, the movie debut of Prince as the Kid, a Minneapolis club musician who is as alienated as he is talented.

Also being shown is Suede and Roger Sargent’s film Suede: Night Thoughts, which looks at what events play out in the mind of a drowning man.

It will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the gruoup.

Ian Wild, Showroom chief executive, said: “Every summer, Tramlines brings an incredible amount of energy to Sheffield through its vibrant and diverse programme of live music.

“We are excited to be working with them to curate an equally diverse programme of music films to complement this, and are looking forward to developing this partnership for the future.”

All screenings will be open to Tramlines wristband and pass-holders, with a limited number of tickets available for individual films from the Showroom box office on 0114 275 7727.
