Video: Shoppers evacuated as blaze erupts near Doncaster retail park

Shoppers have reportedly been evacuated from a string of stores this lunchtime after a major blaze broke out near a Doncaster retail park.

Fire crews have been tackling the blaze on grassland behind the Wheatley Retail Park on Wheatley Hall Road.

Footage from the scene shows a large plume of smoke rising from behind the Jollyes and Poundland store and one shopper said people had been evacuated from a number of stores as a precaution.

It is understood two fire engines are tackling the blaze on grassland behind the stores.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two fire crews from Adwick and Doncaster stations were called out to Wheatley Hall Road, Wheatley, Doncaster at 1pm.

“Pallets and cardboard were on fire to the rear of shops.

“Firefighters have extinguished the fire but are still damping down at the scene. “
