£160 Doncaster hotel booking cancelled as price bumped up to £300 for St Leger

A booking for the St Leger weekend was cancelled - and then the price was increased

A disgruntled tourist has hit out at a Doncaster city centre hotel - after a £160 booking for the St Leger weekend was suddenly cancelled - and then re-advertised for more than £300.

The guest had made a two night booking at the Danum Mercure in the High Street during last weekend’s St Leger Festival.

But the reservation, which was booked through third party platform booking.com was later pulled - with the same room being advertised for a total of £308.

The guest, who asked not to be named, receivied the cancellation via email - and then discovered the price hike when looking at the firm’s website.

A spokesperson for the hotel said: “We are aware of concerns regarding a reservation made through an online travel agent that was unexpectedly cancelled.

“This cancellation was not initiated by the hotel and is linked to a third-party provider, which is currently investigating the cause of the issue.

“As soon as we became aware of the situation, we took immediate steps to support the affected guest.

“Our team proactively contacted them and offered to reinstate their reservation on the original terms.”
