Reform UK Doncaster furious over 1-in-10 council properties not meeting 'Decent Homes Standard'
Reform UK Doncaster have slammed the local council’s housing performance as one-in-10 properties fail to meet the Decent Homes Standard, according to cabinet papers.
89.2 per cent of council properties in the city, managed by St Leger Homes of Doncaster, meet the Decent Homes Standard set out by the Government, at the end of 2025/26 quarter three.
The 10.8 per cent not meeting the expected standard is nearly four times higher than the local target of three per cent – and equivalent to 2,100 properties.
Councillor Rachel Reed, Reform UK councillor for Conisbrough ward, said: “Residents expect the council to provide safe, decent homes and a repairs service that actually works. Yet this report shows that more than two thousand council homes still fail to meet the Decent Homes Standard and repair targets continue to be missed.

“Nearly £47 million is being spent on housing management, taxpayers and tenants are entitled to expect far better results.”
Reform UK Doncaster are calling on the Labour administration on the City of Doncaster Council to “urgently outline” how it will improve housing standards for its tenants.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting on March 11, 2026, Cllr Glyn Jones, deputy mayor and cabinet member for environment, housing and safer communities, said: “The main contributing factor to current non-decency levels is due to major components that are in poor condition, this is mainly chimneys and roofs.

“Whilst significant investment is planned through the council’s capital programme during the remainder of 2025/26 and 2026/27, current planned investment levels will require further analysis as the stock requires further investment.”
A spokesperson for the Mayor Ros Jones’ office also directed the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) to comments from Cllr Jones during the full council meeting on February 26, 2026.
In that meeting, Cllr Jones outlined “eagerly awaited announcements” from the Government in late January 2026 “about rent convergence, a new Decent Homes Standard two, property energy efficiency requirements and council house building and funding”.
He said the details and implications of these announcements will be finalised over the next 12 months in advance of the 2027 budget setting.
