PICS AND VIDEO: Fire rages on at disused Doncaster pub as residents told 'keep windows closed'
Firefighters have been battling a fire at a disused pub in Doncaster for nearly four hours.
The pub broke out at the former Highfields Miner’s Welfare Club on South Street at around 9.30am this morning (Tuesday, August 11).
South Yorkshire Fire said they have five pumps at the scene from Doncaster, Edlington, Dearne and Parkway.
Due to smoke plumes, residents who live nearby are being advised to keep doors and windows closed despite the heat.
The Fire Service said they expect to be on scene for ‘at least another couple of hours’ and have asked people to avoid the area.
According to residents in the ‘tight knit’ community surrounding the old pub, there have been several fires at the site within the past few years.
It is not yet known what caused the blaze- the spokesperson added this would be investigated once the fire is finally out.
