Afolabi Omotola, custom games executive at Winning Moves UK, who are making the new game under license from Hasbro, said the charities had to be “clearly Doncaster focused” to qualify. They must also be currently registered with the Charity Commission.

He said: “It's our way of thanking the public for getting behind the game so very enthusiastically.”

The makers announced on March 5 that a Doncaster version of the game would be manufactured, and invited the public to vote for general landmarks to feature in the game.

More than 2,000 nominations within the first week had been sent to the game’s makers.

As the Free Press went to press this week, it was understood the Mansion House has polled very well, as have The Dome, the Keepmoat Stadium and Doncaster Racecourse.

Last week, the firm behind the game said they believed the cheapest space on the board, the equivalent of Old Kent Road, may be allocated to St Peters Church in Conisbrough, as it was an old building and would not be highly valued by property developers.

Polls for the general landmarks closed last night, and are opening today for a week specifically for charity nominations.

“The response has been fantastic,” said Mr Omotola. "We would like to formally thank each and every person who has sent in nominations and as our way of a big thank you, three Doncaster charities will now get to star on their very own Community Chest and Chance spaces.”
