The public were invited last week to vote for Doncaster locations to feature in the town’s version of the game, after the makers confired a local edition will be created.

Mansion House, Conisbrough Castle, the Keepmoat Stadium, the Dome, the airport and the racecourse were singled out as likely spaces, but today it is revealed the current favourite to be Old Kent Road space is none of these.

Old Kent Road is the cheapest place on the Monopoly board and Winning Moves UK, who are due to make the Doncaster version under licence from Hasbro, have put up four reasons for claiming the eighth century church and Old Kent Road could be “the perfect fit”:

They said:

# The church is very old – like Old Kent Road.

# It is high-profile and talked about.

# It is much visited. In Monopoly Old Kent Road is much visited, as there is a ‘Go back to Old Kent Road’ card.

# Heritage lovers would consider it ‘sacrilege’ for any development near the site so it’s not attractive to investors.

The Chance and Community Chest cards are being largely Doncaster themed too. One may reward players for picking the winner of the St Leger.

Mr Omotola said: “We are delighted with all the great suggestions that have poured in so far.”
