Doncaster music producer working with big names after attracting attention of US star Timbaland

Jamie Shield was surprised to find out that his instrumental music was used on US rapper Kevin Gates’s new single ‘Grandmotha Grave.’

Jamie from Warmsworth said: “It’s really exciting to be featured in this way - it was a rush of adrenaline when I found out my music was being used on such a huge scale.”

Jamie’s music career was catapulted when rapper Timbaland noticed his work on Instagram.

After the two shared a few direct messages the musician called him in the middle of the night.

Jamie said: “He told me that he liked what I was doing and asked me some technical questions.

“Next thing I knew I was flying out to LA to sit in music sessions with him and making all sorts of connections in the music world.”

It was during this trip when Jamie met the agent of artist Kevin Gates who used his music on his new single.

The track has so far had 2.5 million views on YouTube since it was released five days ago.

Jamie’s career in music started when he was a young man and he now works as a music producer full time.

“I grew up in bands and I have always loved all types of music,” he continued.

“I want young people who have grown up in Doncaster to know that they can follow their dreams and succeed.

“Just because you're not in a major city doesn’t mean that you can’t pursue art - use the internet to connect with the world and just put yourself out there.”

Despite Covid-19 having a huge hit on the entertainment industry as a whole Jamie believes that music is thriving now more than ever.

He said: “Live shows and venues have been hit hard but there are more people listening to music because they have more time.

“More artists have the time to dedicate to making new content and online platforms are giving more people a chance to share their art.”
