Doncaster Chamber unites firms to support Salvation Army toy appeal

Doncaster Chamber has united businesses across the city at a heartwarming event to support the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Present Appeal.

The organisation hosted its annual Christmas event, Mingle and Market, at Doncaster Minster on Friday, bringing local businesses together, in partnership with Handelsbanken.

This year, the event included a festive Christmas market, which included handmade makes from across the region, alongside the traditional donation collection.

Chamber members from across the city contributed, resulting in a record-breaking 913 toys placed beneath the Minster’s Christmas tree.

Every year, The Salvation Army collects donations of unwrapped gifts, which are then distributed to children who might otherwise have nothing to open on Christmas Day.

Mingle and Market aimed to bring the community together, celebrate the festive season, and make a difference for those in need across the local community.

This year’s event successfully gathered 913 gifts, spreading joy throughout Doncaster.

The Christmas Market showcased local businesses and reinforced Doncaster’s strong sense of community and commitment to supporting one another.

Attendees enjoyed live festive music from the Salvation Army Brass Band and singing from the Rainbow Connection Choir, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere.

Complimentary mulled wine and mince pies added to the seasonal cheer.

The event was sponsored by Handelsbanken, who, along with a selection of other Chamber members, acted as collection points for gifts over the past couple of months.

Their support, combined with the generous contributions from local businesses across Doncaster, was vital to the success of the appeal.

Natalie Simpson, Branch Manager at Handelsbanken reflects on the event: “Handelsbanken in Doncaster have supported the Salvation Army Toy Appeal for over 10 years, and we were delighted to sponsor the event last week promoting this fantastic cause. The work the Salvation Army does with the Toy Appeal is inspiring, bringing hope and joy to families who might otherwise struggle at this time of year. We have once again been overwhelmed by the generosity of our staff, clients & professional contacts, who donated gifts at our offices here in Doncaster.”

Dan Fell, CEO of Doncaster Chamber, held a speech at the event, thanking everyone for their contributions to Doncaster’s community and how the event reflected Doncaster and its collaborative efforts to support one another as best as we can.

Reflecting on the occasion, Mr Fell commented: “Our annual Christmas event has continued to evolve, and this year’s event Mingle and Market has truly captured the spirit of Doncaster’s business

community.

“We were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of gifts donated which will make a significant difference to children across Doncaster who need support the most. It was heartening to see so many local organisations come together not only to celebrate the festive season but to contribute to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal which has such a meaningful impact at this time of year.

“Our sincere thanks go to Handelsbanken for their generous sponsorship and to every business that took part. The sense of collaboration and goodwill in the room was inspiring, and it is a reminder of what can be achieved when our community comes together.”
