Are there any parties and will the church bells ring in Doncaster to mark Brexit this week?
Love it or hate it, there's no escaping that this Friday will see Britain leave the European Union.
January 31 at 11pm will officially mark the moment of Brexit – and a number of events are being staged nationally to mark the occasion.
But is anything happening locally?
Here are the events that we know are taking place in Doncaster.
A couple of Doncaster pubs will be staging Brexit celebration parties.
The Grove on York Road and The Three Horse Shoes on North Bridge – which was forced to call off a previous Brexit celebration after the deadline was missed – have both advertised parties.
It is understood the Brexit Party is hosting an event at Doncaster’s Castle Park rugby ground – but an event at Doncaster’s Diamond Live Lounge was called off due to ‘unforeseen circumstances.’
Wetherspoons – which is run by prominent pro-Leave campaigner Tim Martin – has not organised any official events, but it is cutting the price of 10 drinks, including a number of beers and vodkas, from Brexit day.
Dubbed the ‘Let’s stay friends’ offer, the chain will reduce the price of select drinks which originate in a range of European countries by approximately 60p. These include drinks from Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Holland and Ireland, as well as from across the UK.
Doncaster Minster has confirmed that its church bells will NOT ring out for Brexit - and its unlikely any other local churches will mark the occasion as guidance states that bells should not be rung for political reasons – although individual churchwardens can make their own call on whether to ring bells.
While buildings in London are being lit up in red, white and blue it is not thought Doncaster Council will be doing anything to mark the event.
Pro-EU and Remain supporting group Best For Doncaster will gather for a #ThankEU party with European food, drink and music.
Doncaster’s three MPs – Ed Miliband, Rosie Winterton and Nick Fletcher - have all been invited to attend the event which will celebrate the European Union.
