A post reads: “Due to unforeseen circumstances the “Brexit countdown event” is to be scraped (sic).

“Sorry for any inconvenience, kind regards, Lord Brexit.”

Britain is on course to leave the EU at 11pm on January 31 and there have been calls for Big Ben to ring out – although Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said the scheme would be too costly.

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage is hosting a £100,000 Brexit celebration party in Parliament Square.
