A Doncaster woman is proud to be from up north and publish her first novel

A new young adult novel has been written by a Doncaster woman who wants to encourage other writers in the town to aim for their literary dreams.

Amy McCaw’s first book is being published on Thursday, April 1, 2021.

Amy, from Edenthorpe, said: “It’s all a bit surreal, I have wanted this for such a long time but it’s also a bit intimidating.

“I’m really proud of where I’m from and I hope that I can go into schools in the future and show kids that you can be from Doncaster and get a book deal.”

The book is called “Mina and the Undead” and is a Young Adult novel published under UCLAC publishing.

It follows a girl from Whitby venturing to New Orleans to attend a vampire festival.

But things quickly go wrong when she discovers a dead body.

Amy describes this book as a gothic murder mystery that’s fun and fast paced.

Due to Covid-19 there have been many changes to the normal publishing process.

“I won’t be able to go and see my book in a bookshop on release day,” she said.

“But I have had many virtual opportunities come my way such as podcasts that wouldn’t have happened in normal times.

Amy became a mum in February last year and so has juggled her writing career with taking care of a lockdown baby.

“I write when he is asleep mostly,” she said.

“I’m a full time mum and an education consultant.”

Amy has ideas for more books set in this world and is hopeful that she will get to expand the series.
