MP visits transformative Doncaster disabled cycling project

The Labour MP met participants, volunteers and staff

A Doncaster MP has paid a visit to a transformative disabled cycling project in Doncaster.

Doncaster Central MP Sally Jameso visited Wheels for All to see first-hand how inclusive cycling is transforming the lives of disabled people across the borough.

During the visit to the Dome Cycle Circuit, Sally met participants, volunteers and staff, observed an inclusive cycling session in action and heard personal stories about the impact that adapted cycling has had on people's health, wellbeing and independence.

The programme is delivered through a partnership between Wheels for All and Doncaster Culture & Leisure Trust (DCLT), supported by trained volunteers who help ensure sessions are accessible to people of all abilities.

Ms Jameson said: "It was a real pleasure to visit Wheels for All at the Dome and meet the incredible participants, volunteers and staff who make these sessions possible. The stories I heard today demonstrate the life-changing difference that inclusive cycling can make, helping people improve their health, build confidence and develop lasting social connections.

"Doncaster is fortunate to have such an outstanding facility, and I want to help ensure that more local people know about the opportunities available here. Everyone should have the chance to enjoy the freedom, independence and joy that cycling can bring."

Wheels for All supports people with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, autism and long-term health conditions, enabling them to enjoy the physical, mental and social benefits of cycling. Family members, carers and support workers are also encouraged to take part.

Joe McTague, Chief Executive of Wheels for All, said: "We were delighted to welcome Sally to Wheels for All Doncaster and showcase the impact inclusive cycling is having across our community.

"Our sessions remove barriers to physical activity and provide disabled people with the opportunity to cycle in a safe and supportive environment. We are passionate about ensuring that every disabled person who could benefit from inclusive cycling knows that these sessions are available, and we are grateful for the support of local champions who can help us grow awareness and secure a sustainable future for the hub."

Wheels for All has been removing barriers to cycling for more than 35 years and now supports over 100 inclusive cycling locations across the country, helping thousands of people access cycling every year.
