Man and woman in hospital after early morning Doncaster road smash

Emergency services were called this morning

A man and a woman have been taken to hospital after an early morning road crash which shut a major Doncaster road - while a nearby motorway closed by a separate incident remains shut this lunchtime.

Emergency services were called to the incident in Hatfield shortly after 7.30am.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “At 7.40am today (Thursday 23 July) we were called to reports of a collision involving two cars in Tudworth Road, Hatfield.

“Emergency services attended and found a black Golf GTI and silver Volkswagen Golf saloon had been in collision.

“The drivers of both cars, a man and a woman, were taken to hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

“A section of the road was closed while emergency services worked at the scene. It reopened around 10.50am.”

It comes as emergency services continue to deal with a separate incident on the nearby M18/M180 intersection.

A spokesperson said: “The M18 is shut at Junction 5.

“Emergency services are working at the scene and motorists are being asked to avoid the areas and find alternative routes if possible.

“We thank you for your patience.”

Emergency services were called to the M180 at its intersection with the M18 near Thorne at around midnight.

Photos from the scene appear to show a vehicle ablaze in woodland alongside the intersection.

An eyewitness said the vehicle was empty.

The road has been shut since then and remains closed this lunchtime.

A spokesperson for National Highways Yorkshire said: “The M180 westbound remains closed between J2 and M18 J5 due to a serious collision.

“South Yorkshire Police have completed investigations. Emergency barrier repairs are now underway.

“No ETA on reopening Delays of 60 mins and three miles of congestion on the approach.”

Diversions are in place.

Earlier, Highways Yorkshire said barrier repairs needed to take place after what a spokesperson described as “serious” damage.
