A drone has been drafted in to help fire crews tackling a huge blaze which has ripped through a Doncaster beauty spot.

Fire crews have spent nearly two days tackling the inferno at Hatfield Moors which has already destroyed acres of moorland and devastated wildlife habitats.

Six fire appliances from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have been tackling the blaze since Sunday night.

A spokesman said: “Incidents like this tend to be quite protracted, so we’ll probably be there a few days yet.”

No one has been injured in the fire, which was first reported at around 5.30pm on Sunday.

Because of high levels of peat on the moorland, fires can burn for several days and sometimes weeks.
