Doncaster Wheatsheaf Singers line up series of autumn and winter shows
The popular singing group are gearing up for a new season of shows
After their summer break, The Doncaster Wheatsheaf Singers are now back in full swing rehearsing for their upcoming concerts in the autumn and winter period.
This all female choir sing popular music which includes songs from the shows to well known choral classics.

Their first concert of the season starts with An Evening of Light Choral Music on Saturday 19 September, commencing at 7pm in the beautiful old church of St. John the Baptist, Church Street, Mexborough. The concert is to raise funds for the steeple renovation to the church.
This is followed by a concert at St. Hugh’s Church, Cantley on Saturday 26 September also commencing at 7pm. On this occasion DWS will be joined by Isle Choral Singers.
A spokesperson said: “This is a return concert with this lovely choir as we performed in concert with them last year in Epworth. We hope you will support us in giving them a very warm Cantley welcome.”
Later in the year, on 28 November, DWS will be singing again in Cantley but this time in St. Wilfrid’s Church. Their programme for this concert will include not only songs from their usual repertoire but also introduce some early festive music.
Tickets for all three concerts are £8.00 each, to include refreshments, and are available from choir members in advance or simply pay on the door.
The highlight of the choir’s calendar is always their Annual Charity Christmas Concert which is held in Doncaster Minster on Saturday 12 December at 7 pm.
This concert is organised by the DWS and also features Hatfield and Askern Colliery Band.
The spokesperson added: “It is always a brilliant evening and over the years has raised literally thousands of pounds for local charitable organisations.”
This year the concert will be raising much needed funds for St. John’s Hospice in Doncaster. Tickets for this are already on sale at £10 each.
As it is always extremely popular, it is recommended to purchase the tickets in advance if possible.
These can be purchased from any Coop Food or Funeralcare Branch in the Doncaster District or directly from the choir.
