Doncaster to host repair cafe and electrical safety workshop
The event will allow people to get items fixed for free and tested for electrical safety
A repair cafe where people will be able to get items fixed for free as well as tested for electrical safety is to be held in Doncaster.
South Yorkshire Climate Alliance is holding the event in Cantley on Friday 20 November to raise awareness of household fires by providing free PAT testing.

The event will take place from 10am to-1pm at Cantley Community Centre, Goodison Boulevard.
A spokesperson said: “The event aims to raise awareness of the risk of household fires caused by poorly maintained or damaged electrical items and is part of a wider project to encourage people to value the items they already own and repair broken items rather than replace them.
“So, where can you get your favourite broken ornament or toaster repaired or checked to make sure it’s safe?
“You can bring it along to one of Doncaster’s Repair Cafés.

“Repair cafés are community events where skilled local volunteers do their best to fix items brought in by their friends and neighbours - for free!”
They help reduce landfill, help people save money and share important repair skills. They are also a great way to meet new people, share your skills and connect with your local community.
Rossington Community Repair Workshop holds a repair café the first Saturday of the month between 1-4pm at Radburn Road Communal Hall and Doncaster Development Trust run a regular repair café supported by Doncaster Refurnish on the last Tuesday of the month at Bullcroft Memorial Hall between 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
The event will also offer free PAT testing on all those Christmas lights, electric blankets and other small household items that can cause fires in homes across Doncaster, especially at this time of year.
There will also be a free Toy Swap, upcycling crafts and Chritsmas cards and decorations as we believe Christmas doesn’t have to cost the earth.
The project is also working with local network partners ArtBomb and Doncaster Housing for Young People to raise awareness of the danger of lithium-ion related fires caused by Vapes being dropped into household waste, and the rising issue of E-waste.
Project lead Nicky Birkinshaw said: “By offering free PAT testing at a local repair café, we can help reduce household fires and keep our communities safe’.
