The first teaser trailer for the follow-up to last year''s hugely successful Marvel Comics adaptation has been released - and features the star's 1980s worldwide number one smash St Elmo's Fire.

Ryan Reynolds is set to reprise his role as the titular anti-hero in the film - and in one scene shown in the new teaser footage, his character Wade Wilson is seen listening to the 1985 smash which was an American number one and UK top ten hit.

The first glimpse of the new film – tentatively titled Deadpool 2 – has been debuting in cinemas worldwide this weekend before screenings of the X-Men spin-off Logan.

Shot by Deadpool 2 director David Leitch, the teaser has also now been released on Reynolds’ YouTube page.

Entitled ‘No Good Deed’, the clip sees Deadpool – who, as Wade Wilson, is seen at the start of the short film listening to St. Elmo's Fire - responding to a street robbery in his usual, way.

The trailer itself doesn’t give away many clues on when fans can expect the sequel, with the final message reading: ‘Deadpool… coming … not soon enough’.

Sykehouse based John, 64, has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide and has written and performed 12 Hollywood movie themes, including for Three Men and a Baby, Near Dark, and The Running Man.

He wrote St Elmo's Fire in honour of wheelchair athlete and activist Rick Hansen and the song became the theme for the film St. Elmo's Fire.

It became a hit around the world and garnered many awards, including a Grammy nomination.
