Doncaster residential home rated good by Care Quality Commission

The home provides personal care and support to older people and people living with dementia

A Doncaster residential home has been rated good following a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Rock House Residential Home at Tickhill Spital is run by Andrew Pass and was visited between June 9-30 this year.

The home provides personal care and support to older people and people living with dementia. The service can support up to 57 people. When the CQC visited there were 44 people living there, and they found all aspects of the services provided were good.

In its report it said: “The provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty. The provider shared safety concerns quickly and appropriately with the local authority.

“Members of staff confirmed they had access to policies and procedures and they knew what to do if they suspected harm or abuse.

“People’s care plans were detailed and person-centred. Risks associated with care and support had been assessed and actions to mitigate and reduce risks were identified.

“The provider made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff, who received effective support, supervision and development. Administration of medicines was managed safely. There were systems and processes in place to audit and review medication administration record (MAR) charts.”

It went on to say that members of staff always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. People were treated as individuals and members of staff made sure people’s care, support and treatment met their needs and preferences.

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

The inspectors said people were very positive in the feedback about the quality of care and attention to people in this service.

“There was universal praise from family members for the accessibility and responsiveness of the registered manager and all members of staff,” the report added.

“There were no mentions of delays in members of staff responding to people’s needs.”
