Doncaster police lay wreaths ahead of 'stay at home' Remembrance Sunday

Officers visited the war memorial in Bennetthorpe last night to pay their respects to the town’s war dead.
Because of coronavirus restrictions, this year’s annual ceremony and town centre parade have been cancelled, along with other Remembrance Sunday events across the borough.

Hide AdPeople are being urged to stay at home to watch the national service from London on television, display poppies in their window and observe the traditonal period of silence from 11am on their doorsteps.
Doncaster Council has said that people can still visit war memorials to pay their respects, but should follow social distancing guidelines and avoid the period around 11am when it is expected to be busier.
Doncaster’s civic mayor Coun Paul Wray will also visit the war memorial during the day to lay wreaths on behalf of the town.
