Doncaster MP rewarded with role in Andy Burnham's new Government

The Doncaster Central MP supported the new PM in the Makerfield by-election

A Doncaster MP has been rewarded for her support for new Prime Minister Andy Burnham after being appointed to serve in his Government.

Doncaster Central MP Sally Jameson has been appointed as Parliamentary Secretary to the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Housing, Communties and Local Government.

She was a Parliamentary Private Secretary for Shabana Mahmood under Sir Keir Starmer’s leadership.

She said: “I am delighted to have been appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Cabinet Office and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

“I am looking forward to supporting Prime Minister Andy Burnham in his Government's mission to decentralise powers away from Whitehall and give power back to our communities.”

Earlier this year, she canvassed for Mr Burnham in the Makerfield by-election which led to him becoming Prime Minister and also endorsed him as Labour leader.

In a statement, she said: “I wanted to let people across Doncaster Central know that I am backing Andy Burnham.

“I believe Andy is the right leader for Doncaster and the country.

“He understands that northern towns and cities have been long overlooked and that decisions affecting places like ours are too often made in Westminster, rather than by the communities themselves.

“His vision of giving more power to regions, delivering growth in every postcode and rebuilding trust in politics, speaks directly to Doncaster's future.

“It means backing towns and cities with the investment they deserve, tackling the housing challenges that have held people back, and creating good jobs and opportunities for young people.

“Whether serving in government or leading Greater Manchester, Andy has shown the kind of leadership that brings people together, stands up for people and delivers real change.

“I believe he understands that when places like Doncaster succeed, Britain succeeds.”

She joins fellow Doncaster MPs John Healey and Ed Miliband in serving in the new Government.

Rawmarsh and Conisbrough MP John Healey has been appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer with Doncaster North MP Ed Miliband appointed Foreign Secretary.
