Doncaster MP backs Andy Burnham in Makerfield by-election
The crucial by-election takes place this Thursday
A Doncaster Labour MP has given her backing to Andy Burnham in the crucial Makerfield by-election.
Doncaster Central MP Sally Jameson spent the weekend canvassing for Mr Burnham, who is expected to challenge Prime Minister as Labour leader should he win Thursday’s contest.
Ms Jameson is one of two Doncaster MPs - alongside Lee Pitcher of Doncaster East and Isle of Axholme - who have called for Starmer to step down.
Sharing a picture of herself on the streets of Makerfield, Ms Jameson wrote: “Brilliant to be in Makerfield this weekend to support Andy Burnham.
“The sun came out and there was huge support for Andy and his record of success in Greater Manchester.”
The former mayor of Greater Manchester is running for Parliament after sitting MP Josh Simons stood down.
A seat would allow Mr Burnham to challenge the PM for Labour’s leadership.
