Doncaster Knights sweating on fitness of Championship's leading scorer Dougie Flockhart

Doncaster Knights could pay a high price for Sunday's 34-24 Championship win over derby rivals Rotherham Titans at Castle Park.

Leading points scorer Dougie Flockhart injured his bicep in the final quarter of the game, and depending on the severity of the injury, he could miss a number of games.

Should the Scot need surgery he would probably miss the rest of the campaign.

Director of rugby Clive Griffiths was expected to have a better idea of the extent of the problem when the players reported back for training on Tuesday.

Fly-half Declan Cusack has already been ruled out of this weekend’s trip to Ealing after being concussed in Sunday’s game and the Welshman is hoping to bring Sam Olver in as cover at half-back.

Griffiths again paid tribute to the club’s pack and the work been done by forwards’ coach Glen Kenworthy.

“The forwards did a magnificent job and to score four tries from catch and drives was outstanding. We were very clinical in that aspect of our game,” he said.

“Our catch and drive has been an important weapon for us alongside our running rugby.”

Despite Knights having lost just one of their last 14 games, Griffiths insists there is still room for improvement.

“We had a two-on-one when Mat Clark broke through, just as Tyson Lewis did against Jersey the week before, and we didn’t capitalise on it again,” he said.

“Had we scored from that (and converted it) it would have taken us over the 40-point mark which would better reflected how we played.”

Knights will play their B&I Cup quarter-final at Cornish Pirates on Sunday, March 13.
