The recognition comes as DBTH continues to strengthen its work to ensure that the needs and experiences of veterans, serving personnel, reservists and their families are better understood and reflected across the Trust.
Over recent years, DBTH has increased its focus on making healthcare and working life more equitable for the Armed Forces community, working closely with local partners and community organisations to understand the challenges people can face when accessing healthcare or working within the NHS.
A key part of this work has been ensuring that the voices and lived experiences of members of the Armed Forces community are heard and used to shape improvements.
This has included the development of new resources to help veterans and their families understand when their previous service may be relevant to their healthcare, alongside practical guidance for staff to help them better understand and respond to the needs of the Armed Forces community.

“While the nominations recognise the contributions of individuals, they also reflect the commitment across DBTH to making a positive difference for our Armed Forces community.
“Through our Armed Forces Covenant Oversight Group, we are working to better understand the experiences and needs of veterans, serving personnel, reservists and their families, and to ensure their voices are reflected in how we deliver healthcare and support our people.”
