Doncaster community pub set to re-open following massive makeover

A Doncaster community pub is set to re-open following a huge makeover.

The Alverley Inn on Springwell Lane, Balby is set to officially reopen on Thursday 29 October following an investment of £698,669.

The pub is part of Proper Pubs, the award-winning community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns, which operates more than 200 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales.

Behind the bar is passionate community hero, Beverley Cooper, who not only brings a wealth of industry experience to the Alverley Inn with her, but has also run one of Proper Pub’s other venues in Stourbridge.

A spokesperson said: “Her expertise, combined with her energy and enthusiasm, will enable her to create a lively social hub for local residents to enjoy, further cementing the pub at the heart of the local community.”

Inside, the pub will be transformed to include a fully refurbished first floor area, including opening up the lounge bar area to give customers a more cohesive space, as well as complete with new lighting, flooring, televisions, furniture and seating to breathe a fresh lease of life into the pub to create a more appealing environment for both staff and customers.

The sports and entertainment offer will also be enhanced through new darts and pool facilities.

Externally, the pub will benefit from new signage and a full external redecoration, including new seating and a refurbishment of the rear beer garden. The refurbishment also includes some necessary roof repairs.

Beverley said: “I’m delighted to be taking on the Alverley Inn and it’s been amazing to see the refurbishment come to life.

“I’m excited to welcome both long-time locals and newer faces through the door, to enjoy all the great entertainment we have planned and also our new pool and darts facilities, as well as the improved layout inside the pub.

“It has been redesigned as a real family friendly community pub with something for everyone. I would also like to say a huge thank you to the team at Proper Pubs for their support throughout the renovation.”

On top of the fantastic drinks selection, the operator will host a busy schedule of entertainment for customers to enjoy including regular live music, DJs, karaoke, quiz nights, game nights, pool teams, and darts teams.

In addition to this, the pub will be showing weekly live sport and racing.

Beverley is also hoping to support all aspects of community life by collecting food to donate to the local foodbank, supporting local charities close to the community’s heart, and raising money for a life-saving defibrillator outside the pub.
