Shooting latest: Residents tell of shock after woman injured in Doncaster last night

The 37-year-old was injured when two men entered a house on West End Avenue, Bentley, last night (Thursday) at around 10.17pm.

The woman suffered injuries to her back. They are not believed to be life-threatening and detectives are treating it as a targeted attack.

The door at the property was boarded up today. The only trace of police tape remaining after investigations over night was a short length still attached to a car wing mirror.

One neighbour, a friend, told of her shock at the incident.

She said: “It’s quite scary to hear of this happening so close to home. I didn’t expect something like this to happen round here, but I gather there were about five police cars here after the incident.”

She said she had messaged the injured woman since the incident, but not heard anything back from her.

She said: "She’s lovely – she’s always been good with us. We’ve been close since we’ve been neighbours, and I class her as a close friend. We’re all worried about her.

“I’m hoping we see her again soon.”

Another neighbour said she heard a bang last night after she had gone to bed.

She said: “I always freak out if I hear a bang, even if it’s fireworks. My boyfriend thought it may be someone trying to break in.

"It’s quite scary to hear that someone was shot.

"I’ve lived here for years – there’s never been anything like that happening on the street.”

She said she had seen a paramedic car and an ambulance outside the house, as well as police cars. Five minutes after the police arrived, she said the police helicopter also arrived.

She said. “You don’t think anyone’s going to have a gun in England. We wouldn’t even know where to get them."

She added it was the second time the police had been on the street this month. Officers had raided a house further down the road seized cannabis plants the previous week, she said.
