At 5.43am on Thursday, August 27, officers witnessed a Ford Fiesta being driven erratically along College Road. When it failed to stop as directed, a chase ensued.

Jerzy Surzyn, who witnessed the chase on his way to work, said the motorist in the car being pursued drove on the wrong side of the road as he tried to evade capture.

He said: “The tyres must be damaged as there was a really bad noise. Two or three police cars were chasing it. Inside the car was a young lady with blonde hair and another man.”

The chase is believed to have passed through Carr House Road and Clarke Avenue.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed a Nottinghamshire man is now in custody after being arrested on suspicion of numerous driving offences, including dangerous driving, failing to stop and having no insurance.
