The latest warning runs throughout Friday

Doncaster has been put on a fresh alert for thunderstorms and potential flooding after the Met Office issued a fresh yellow warning.

A new warning for thunderstorms comes into force from noon today (August 28) and runs until 9pm tonight.

It comes after heavy downpours across Doncaster during the day and overnight - although flood warnings issued yesterday across South Yorkshire have now been lifted by the Environment Agency.

A spokesperson for the Met Office, discussing Friday’s forecast, said: “Thunderstorms in a few places leading to some disruption and possible flooding.

“There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.

“Delays to train services are possible.

“Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely, leading to some damage to buildings or structures.

“Possibly some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes.

“Some short-term loss of power and other services is possible.”
