The trust says it is exploring a number of contingencies and convening daily operational meetings in order to prepare for any developments.

Richard Parker OBE, chief executive at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, said: “As an organisation we are developing plans so that, if needed, we can create capacity, ease staffing pressures, stand down non-essential meetings, conferences and training, as well as explore contingencies around things like accommodation, site access, parking and catering."

Bosses say they look to guidance from the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England. They say they are following coronavirus developments closely, but currently it is business as usual at the trust.

They added they wanted to thank colleagues within the NHS, for preparing and managing suspected cases nationally, although stressing none are confirmed in Doncaster at present.

Dr Rupert Suckling, director of public health at Doncaster Council, said: "It is important that everyone follows the latest guidance issued by Public Health England in relation to handwashing. If anyone has a persistent cough or a temperature above 37.8 degrees, they should self-isolate for seven days. If they develop any further symptoms, deteriorate during that period and don't feel any better after seven days, they should use the NHS 111 online service, where further advice will be given.

"Testing will continue to take place in line with new guidelines and will not be offered routinely to individuals staying at home."
