Marathon runner will help Doncaster children get excited about exercise on the run up to the Tokyo Olympics

A Doncaster charity is teaming up with a marathon runner during National School Sport Week to get children excited about exercise.

Active Fusion, a Doncaster based charity, is hosting a challenge for school pupils across South Yorkshire.

Inspired by the upcoming Tokyo Olympics they have set the goal of exercising the whole way from Doncaster to Japan.

Louise James, founder of the charity, said: “It will take place between June 19 to 25 which is National School Sport Week.

“We hope that it will champion the return of youth sport and its power to bring people back together.

“The challenge will see children taking part in a variety of different sporting challenges to be more physically active during the week and beyond.

The overall challenge is team based so every child’s score will help a school reach the overall total of 5840 miles.

The charity is also partnering with marathon runner Ray Matthews who is about to set out on a huge challenge.

For his 80th birthday he is looking to encourage 80 schools to run at least 80 miles to raise at least £80 per school for Age UK.

Ray said: “I’m so excited by the level of interest that has been shown to date and as we prepare to launch this challenge it seems that my friends around the globe are also interested in making this an international challenge.

“We want as many schools to be a part of this challenge so help us make the future a brighter place to be.”
