Doncaster academy awarded a Football Foundation grant to build a new 3G football and rugby training pitch
Work will soon commence on a brand new 3G rugby and football pitch at Trinity Academy in Thorne.
It marks the culmination of a bid project that has been developed over the past two years alongside local grassroots sports partners.
This project has been made possible thanks to investment from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation.
The new pitch will be FIFA and World Rugby-compliant and replaces the life-expired astroturf pitch that has been in use since the academy opened in 2005. It will include a full-length viewing area for coaches and parents and features new energy-saving LED floodlights.

Victoria Gibson, Principal at Trinity Academy said: “This new 3G pitch will have a lasting impact on our school and wider community, enabling increased participation, improved wellbeing and greater opportunities for young people to engage in sport. We are incredibly grateful to everyone
involved in making this project possible.”
Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA and Government – to transform the quality of grassroots facilities in England by delivering projects like this across the country.
“Good quality playing facilities have a transformative impact on physical and mental health and play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities.
“We’re delighted that works are now underway to deliver a new 3G rugby and football pitch at Trinity Academy and we’re excited to see the new facilities in action.”
The new pitch will be open for students and grassroots sports partners later this year.
