Growing Doncaster hair salon is proud to be inclusive – ‘you could have three legs and we wouldn’t bat an eyelid’

Tracy Grayson, aged 49, is the owner of Anarchy - a hair salon on Wood Street in the town centre.

She said: “We’re called Anarchy because we’re not afraid of breaking rules or being unique.

“I took it over in the height of the recession - it was a big leap of faith but me and the staff are so passionate about what we stand for and worked hard and now we’re here.

“We stand for being non-judgemental, you could walk through that door with three legs and we wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

“We fly the pride flag in our window every day, not just on pride day.

“We have a lot of gay and transgender clientele and we think it’s important that this space is here for them and that they feel comfortable.”

Tracy took over in 2009. The growing business has recently moved from Priory Walk to Wood Street because they needed more room.

The eclectic decor ranges from Lego brick cushions, pride inspired paint splodges and even a tiny pair of feet dangling out of a hole in the roof.

She said: “I wanted people to come in and have something to look at - for it to feel homey and not like a dentist's office.”

Tracy says that it’s their attention to detail that sets them apart - the reception desk is the front half of a Mini car, which Tracy matches with the colour of her lipstick to every day.

It’s not just the decor which is colourful - Tracy prides her team’s hair colour work.

They use Joico Colour Intensity dye and say that they can recreate high fashion looks seen on social media.

Vegan hair options are also available and the salon also wants to start quiet sessions for clients with autism or anxiety.
