Doncaster security company offers to help vulnerable and elderly during coronavirus

A couple in self isolation had nowhere left to turn until they found a Doncaster business who are using their staff to help people in the community.

Denise Humphries, aged 22, in Hexthorpe, was advised by the NHS website to put herself and her household into self-isolation after she started showing signs of coronavirus.

She said: “We don’t have two weeks worth of shopping in our house, we can’t afford to stockpile like people have been doing.

“We started to panic and contacted family and friends but no one could go and do a shop for us.

“We posted in a few groups online but no one could help us and my faith in humanity left.”

Denise and her partner Nick came close to leaving their home to get supplies but neither wanted to run the risk of infecting other people.

“My stepmother sent me the details of the security business and they are now helping us by going to Iceland.

“They’re lovely people and I was so relieved that someone was willing to help us.”

Tony Sheppeck, aged 59, from Cantley, is the Managing Director of 1st Security Solutions.

He has decided that his workers will be used to deliver shopping, post mail, bring urgent supplies and take people to hospital - If they are elderly and in the vulnerable category and now self-Isolating due to Covid-19.

He said: “It’s in my nature to help - many years ago I had cancer and I was saved by the people in Weston Park Hospital.

“Since then I have had empathy for people and in this current time, we need to build a support network.

“My staff who are currently not being used - we work security at big events such as weddings or horse races which have all been called off for the foreseeable.

“We want to go out and help people.”

Next week the staff will also start to deliver medication to people who cannot access it.
