Teachers step out of classroom to champion Carcroft in village-wide community push

Carcroft School staff have recently taken an active role in supporting their local community through a variety of service projects. Setting aside their usual classroom duties, the team organised "The Carcroft Clean Up," a litter-picking event focused on improving the cleanliness and safety of the streets surrounding the school. This effort reflects their belief that small, collective actions can significantly benefit the environment and those who live nearby.

In addition to environmental work, staff members spread goodwill by placing cherished books in public spaces such as community bookshelves and garden areas. This initiative was intended to offer moments of comfort and escape to passersby who might find solace in a good story.

Acknowledging the contributions of local businesses, the staff distributed "Local Hero Certificates" and thank-you cards to establishments including the Bev-Ridge Cafe and the Premier shop. These gestures recognise the important role these venues play in creating welcoming spaces and supporting the Carcroft community.

The team also engaged with local support networks by exploring community noticeboards, particularly at the Asda Carcroft community hub. They highlighted services such as 'Your Place,' local food banks, and the Children’s Book Project, ensuring families connected to the school have access to essential resources related to finances, housing, and childcare.

Furthering their community involvement, staff learned about the work of the Doncaster Development Trust and the Bev-Ridge Cafe at Bullcroft Memorial Hall. These organisations provide affordable meals, social activities, and opportunities for training and volunteering, contributing to the empowerment and wellbeing of the local area.

Stuart Longley, Headteacher since August 2026, emphasised the significance of these activities in embodying the school’s values. He said, "Seeing our staff step out of the classroom to actively uplift the Carcroft community shows exactly what it means to be a Crew. We say that student culture will never outpace adult culture, so it is vital that we lead by example. We are incredibly proud to stand side-by-side with our local heroes and build a stronger, more compassionate Carcroft together."

As part of the XP Trust, Carcroft School balances academic achievement with character development and creative work. The staff’s community engagement exemplifies the Trust’s commitment to nurturing responsible and connected citizens.
