Doncaster Knights prepare for final away trip of season to Caldy
Caldy have built a reputation for resilience and grit, turning their home ground into an unforgiving battleground. Their forward pack thrives on physical confrontation, laying a platform built on hard carries and relentless defensive work. Backed by a vocal home crowd, they will look to dictate the tempo early and disrupt the Knight’s rhythm before it can take hold.

But the Knights charge in with ambitions of their own. They bring structure, precision, and a clinical edge that has troubled many sides this season. Their ability to move the ball quickly and exploit space out wide makes them a constant threat, while their set-piece remains a reliable weapon under pressure. The Knights won’t be intimidated by the atmosphere—they’ll aim to silence it.

The contest may well be decided up front. If Caldy can dominate the collisions and slow the breakdown, they can drag the game into the trenches where they are most comfortable. If Doncaster secure clean ball and impose their attacking patterns, the visitors could turn pressure into points with ruthless efficiency. The knights will rely on their strong set of forwards typified by prop Logovi’i Mulipola (pictured) to face up to the Caldy onslaught.
Discipline will be crucial. In a game that promises intensity from the first whistle, penalties and small errors could prove decisive. Both sides know opportunities may be limited and taking them will be key.
Expect a fierce, uncompromising battle - one where territory, control, and sheer determination will shape the outcome.
Last time out Caldy returned to the Wirral with their metaphorical tail between their legs after losing 64-15 to Ampthill. The mob ran in a resplendent nine tries, including a hat-trick by prop Vaeneku. Caldy’s wing Will Robinson scored a try in return plus they were awarded a penalty try.
The Knights ran in six tries in their 34-5 win over London Scottish, including a hat-trick by wing Zach Kerr (pictured).
Caldy fly half Kieran Wilkinson is arguably their key player. He is their decision-maker and controls things. He has a higher-level pedigree than most of the squad after coming through Sale Sharks, then had stints at Leicester Tigers and Newcastle Falcons before dropping into the Championship with Caldy.
Other fixtures taking place across our nation are;
Friday 1st May
Nottingham (8) v Ampthill (9)
Saturday 2nd May
Cornish Pirates (7) v Coventry (3)
Bedford Blues (2) v Chinnor (5)
Cambridge (14) v Hartpury RFC (6)
London Scottish (13) v Richmond (12)
Worcester Warriors (4) v Ealing Trailfinders (!)
A knight win could see them rise to ninth if Ampthill lose to Nottingham. It is still possible to rise to ninth if Ampthill win but then a mix of bonus points will determine league position.
A knight loss will see them remain tenth.
