Currie strike not enough as Rossington Main are held by Retford United

Rossington Main’s push for a third win in a week was checked at Cannon Park on Saturday as they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Retford United.
Ollie Currie gave Main the lead in the first half with his second goal in four days, but the visitors improved after the break and levelled through Alans Voskresenski to earn a share of the points.
The opening stages were lively, with both sides creating early pressure. Oli Nowak was central to Rossington’s threat, running directly at the defence and forcing an early response from Harvey Woodward after a deflected effort in the first five minutes.
Retford also had chances, but Alexander Duhameau headed wide and Adam Watson blocked Oliver Wilson’s attempt. Nowak continued to trouble the back line, beating his marker twice to get shots away, while Ross Hannah saw one effort blocked close to goal.
Rossington’s pressure paid off on 18 minutes when Currie finished a well-worked move, turning sharply before placing the ball into the bottom-left corner.
Rob Guilfoyle soon almost added a second, but his effort was deflected behind for a corner. At the other end, Kian Johnson denied Brandon Kane and Phillip Watt before the interval as the visitors tried to respond.
After the restart, clear openings became harder to find. Hannah came closest for Rossington when he tried to lift the ball over Woodward, but could not get enough height on the chip.
Retford gradually took control and came close through Carlton Carty, whose cross nearly dipped under the bar, before Voskresenski and Watt both shot over.
Harry Wilson’s arrival after the hour briefly helped Rossington regain some composure, but Retford struck soon after when Voskresenski converted Duhameau’s cut-back from close range.
Rossington still had chances to win it. Wilson sent a low effort narrowly wide after a touch off a defender, while Guilfoyle just failed to release a shot in time. In added time, George Noble headed Mason Warren’s corner just wide.
The draw leaves Rossington five points behind fifth-placed Retford United, although they remain in touch with the NCEL Premier Division play-off places having not lost any ground.
